Oatmeal and a Protien is the best breakfast you can start your day with. Do not use instant oatmeal. These are some fun, tasty ways to add flavor to your oats.
Oatmeal Parfait
Ingredients1/3 cup dry rolled oats2/3 cup water¼ cup egg whites¼ banana1 tsp maple syrup½ cup sliced strawberries¼ cup low fat cottage cheese¼ cup no-fat greek yogurtA few dashes of cinnamon1 tsp of chopped walnuts (3 walnut halves)
DirectionsIn a small bowl combine cottage cheese and yogurt along with a few dashes of cinnamon. Set aside.Combine oats, water and egg whites in a glass dish and pop in the microwave for one and a half to two minutes (this will vary depending on your microwave). Stir halfway through to ensure that you end up with a custard-like oatmeal and NOT scrambled egg whites!Stir banana, maple syrup, and a few more dashes of cinnamon into your oats. Layer sliced strawberries over the oats and top with yogurt/cottage cheese mixture.Sprinkle your walnuts over the top and enjoy!!Serves 1.
"Pear Cobbler" Oatmeal
Ingredients1 cup of cooked oats1/2 a pear, chopped up1 tbsp. of raisins1/4-1/2 cup of milk or water1 tbsp of maple syrupA few walnutsA pinch of cinnamonA pinch of nutmeg
Directions
Put one cup of cooked oats into a microwave safe dish (not plastic) along with pears, raisins, and milk or water.
Pop into the microwave for about a minute. After a minute, remove and give it all a stir before popping it back in for another 30 seconds or so or until it's heated through.
Stir in maple syrup and top with walnuts, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a splash of milk... enjoy!!
Serves 1.
